After completing the 2024 season, and with much contemplation, Serenity Morris resigned from the position as Corps Director. With her resignation, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the next generation of students and build connections in the drum corps community. The 7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization Board of Directors has accepted her resignation and would like to thank Serenity for her tireless efforts this past season.

Amidst this transition, the 7RYPAO is excited to announce the appointment of Greg Arsenault to the role of Corps Director. Greg’s tenure and 20 plus years of leadership in the marching arts will bring fresh perspectives and new energy to 7th Regiment. The entire organization is looking to 2025 with renewed excitement and we are ready to continue the drum corps tradition in 2025.

NEW LONDON, CT – The 7RYPAO Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Serenity Morris (she/her) to the role of Corps Director of 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, effective October 1, 2023.

As Corps Director, Serenity will lead all initiatives to further the growth, education, and cultural vision for our members, staff and volunteers. Serenity is committed to building a strong cohesive team, fostering industry partnerships, developing and delivering further growth, and providing educational student excellence to set the organization up for long-term success.

 

“We are delighted and excited to appoint Serenity to this position.” said Lee Muller, Board President for the 7RYPAO. “Her experience across all areas of the organization, combined with her proven abilities and performance over the past several years, will help build on our past success and deliver an exciting future for 7th Regiment.”


Serenity currently holds a B.A in Theatre Design and Technology and a B.A in Secondary Theatre Education from the University of New Hampshire. Her extensive leadership and administrative pedigree includes her past roles as Music Director for the Palace Youth Theatre, Head of Leadership Curriculum for the Drum Major Leadership Academy, and her current role as Academic Advising Program Coordinator at Brown University. 


An alumna of 7th Regiment, Serenity was a member of the horn line before taking on the role of drum major. After completing her tour as a marching member, Serenity continued leading the organization as Content Manager (2022), Tour Manager (2022), and Assistant Director (2023). “7th has been my home for a very long time and will continue to always be there for students in search of a place of acceptance, growth, and the pursuit of excellence.” says Morris. “I am looking forward to working with our incredible students and staff to build a space for students to learn, experiment, thrive, and chase their dreams. Drum Corps is such a special activity and we can’t wait to share our family with the broader community.”

Austin Eskeli (Visual Caption Manager/Staff Coordinator)

Austin has been a member of the 7R visual team since 2019. A former member of several New England based marching arts organizations, including Seventh Regiment, Austin takes great pride in how dedicated his fellow staff is to creating a positive learning environment for the members of the corps. He takes even greater pride in the determination and spirit of the students he is fortunate enough to teach at Seventh Regiment. While not teaching at 7R, Austin teaches Elementary Music in Massachusetts.

Alessandra Greco (Color Guard Caption Manager)

Alessandra will be returning to 7th Regiment for her fifth season on staff and third season as Color Guard Caption Manager. Alessandra is also a part of the design team this season, working on Visual & Color Guard Design. She has been involved in the marching arts industry for over a decade with teaching experience at high school, middle school, junior, and independent programs across the East Coast.

She has marched for World Class, Open Class, and A Class Color Guards and Drum Corps including The Cadets, Blessed Sacrament World, Spartans DBC, and Salem Blue Winter Guard.

Originally from Massachusetts, Alessandra has been living in New Jersey since 2020 and works professionally in the Energy Industry.

Jesse White (Brass Caption Manager)

Jesse started and ended his Drum Corps experience with 7th Regiment. He marched contra from 2007 to 2010 – taking the 2009 season off for work complications. Jesse received his B.A. in Music from the University of Connecticut as well as his M.S. in Music Education from the University of Bridgeport. He is currently one of the Band Directors at the Francis Walsh Intermediate School in Branford, CT where he currently teaches 5-8 Band, Music Technology, and Jazz Band. In addition to teaching during the day, Jesse is a freelance trumpet player throughout Connecticut.

Finding a true spark of joy in marching band in high school, but especially with his time at 7th Regiment, he has continued to teach with various high school marching programs throughout the state of Connecticut since 2012 – most recently finishing his fourth season as the Brass Caption Head of the Southington High School Blue Knights Marching Band.

Jesse is looking forward to returning to 7th this year on staff for the first time as Brass Caption Manager and giving back to the community that gave him so much inspiration years ago. He can be reached at brass@7thregiment.org.

Neil Britton (Assistant Brass Caption Manager)

Neil began his drum corps career here at 7th Regiment playing trumpet in 2016. He continued to march from 2016-2018 eventually transitioning to marching with Cadets from 2019-2021. Neil is currently pursuing a Music B.A. degree from Rhode Island College. During his academic career, Neil has taught with numerous high school programs across New England such as New Bedford High School, Serving as their Visual Director for 3 years. Neil is looking forward to his second season on staff, this year as Assistant Brass Caption Manager. He can be reached at neil.britton@7thregiment.org

Alex Douthat (Battery Caption Manager)

Alex Douthat is a music educator and performer based out of Northern NJ. Alex has been on the Battery staff at 7th Regiment since 2021, and is excited to be stepping into the Battery Manager role for the 2023 season.

Alex is a proud alumni of United Percussion (2017), 7th Regiment (2016), the Rutgers Drumline (2015-16), and Fusion Core (2014-15). As a member of these groups, he received instruction from Paul Nalesnik, Alex Beltran, Jeff Bickford, and Omi Batan, among others. He also studied under Joe Tompkins in the Rutgers percussion studio from 2015-2019, and performed in a variety of ensembles including their Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Afro Cuban Ensemble. Alex has been a performer with Blue Devils Entertainment on the NY Giants drumline since 2019, and currently serves as their quad section manager. He is also a member of the Tappan Zee Bridgemen and Wholly Brass parade bands in the NJ/NY area.

Alex graduated from Rutgers University in 2019 with a degree in music education, and currently works as an elementary band and orchestra director in Franklin, NJ. Aside from teaching at 7th Regiment, Alex is also the percussion director at Wayne Valley high school, and is a member of the Battery staff at Old Bridge high school.

Henry Lin (Front Ensemble Caption Manager)

Henry Lin is an active educator currently based in the Atlanta Metropolitan area. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Music Education from the University of Georgia conducting research on music education methodology under the tutelage of Dr. Brian Wesolowski. Henry also plays in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s orchestra and symphonic bands and works with various public schools and extracurricular music programs in Clarke, Barrow, Jackson, and Oconee county.

Henry currently serves as the Front Ensemble caption manager for 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. He is also a Front Ensemble technician for Q2 indoor percussion and Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. His previous teaching experiences include being a Front Ensemble technician for 7th Regiment in 2022, the assistant percussion coordinator for Upper St. Clair High School in Pennsylvania, the Front Ensemble Director and Arranger for Franklin Regional High School in Pennsylvania, and a Percussion technician for Villa Rica High School in Georgia.

Prior to moving to Georgia, Henry received his Bachelor of Music in Music Business and double majored in Economic Theory from New York University. While in New York, he studied under Tim Keiper, Joshua Rosenblum, and Dr. Youngmi Ha. During his time in college, Henry had the opportunity to perform with Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps and was named section leader his second year. He also had the opportunity to perform with United Percussion 2 in 2022.

Drum Major

Meredith Holtmeyer is our Drum Major for the 2023 season. Meredith has been a member of 7th Regiment since 2022, starting out in the brass section as a baritone player. Fun Fact: Meredith was named after Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy!

Battery Section Leader

Harrison Fairchild is our Battery Section Leader for the 2023 season. Harrison has been a member of 7th Regiment since 2022, and currently plays the snare drum. Fun Fact: Harrison was born in California!

Jacob Forrette is our Horn Sergeant for the 2023 season. Jacob has been a member of 7th Regiment since 2022, and currently plays the tuba. Fun Fact: Jacob is also a collegiate rugby player!

7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization announces the resignation of Executive Director Kevin Lowery. The board of directors has subsequently appointed Jim O’Neil to the position of Interim Executive Director, effective immediately.

 

Mr. Lowery joined 7th Regiment in 2014 as an instructor with the brass line. In 2015, he took on the position of Brass Caption Manager where he stayed for 2 years until taking on the role of Executive Director in 2017. 

 

Under Mr. Lowery’s leadership, 7th Regiment continued to be a DCI Open Class Finalist and a frontrunner in the annual Drumline Battle competition held in Indianapolis every year since 2014.

 

Mr. Lowery held the Organization together throughout 2020, hosting masterclasses and creating the 7th Regiment Performing Arts Academy. Through innovation and dedication, he led a virtual season in 2021 and a return to the field in 2022, giving the students a full season during a summer where a number of drum corps were unable to attend Championships.

 

The board of directors thanks Mr. Lowery for his years of dedication, passion, and hard work in service of the 7th Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps and the many students who have been through the corps under his leadership.

NEW LONDON, CT – The 7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization extends a heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Jonathan Miller’s election to the position of Vice President!

 

During the Annual Meeting, held on February 20th, 2022, Dr. Miller was elected to a two year term as Vice President of the 7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization. In this role, Jonathan will work closely with the Board President, Lee Muller, to ensure the continued success of the 7th Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps.

Jonathan has been a member of the 7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization since January of 2022. An alumnus of 7th Regiment, Jonathan also serves on the Alumni Committee since April of 2021. 

We look forward to seeing Jonathan’s knowledge and passion for 7th Regiment continue to shine in this new capacity. Congratulations, Jonathan!

NEW LONDON, CT – The 7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Jonathan Miller to its Board of Directors!

 

Jonathan(he/him) currently works as a Scientist/Manager in biopharmaceutical sciences and holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Connecticut and a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts. 

As an alumnus of 7th Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps and a founding/current member of the Performing Arts Initiative for Students of Color (PAISOC), Jonathan’s passion for the performing arts is a welcome addition to the Organization.

“I have always believed in the philosophy that 7th Regiment provides a top-notch experience and that any member is welcome so long as they are prepared to learn,” says Jonathan Miller.

DAN SHINOHARA  (Battery Manager)

Dan Shinohara is a percussionist currently based in Hadley, Massachusetts. He is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he is pursuing a Masters in Percussion Performance Degree while instructing the UMass Drumline alongside Thom Hannum and Ian Hale. He also performs with the UMass Marimba Band, Percussion Ensemble, and studies with Ayano Kataoka.

Dan currently serves as the Battery Caption Manager for the 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. He is also a lesson teacher and content contributor for Stryvemind, an online percussion lesson and resource platform. His previous teaching positions include being a quad tech with Vigilantes Indoor Percussion, Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps where he was also a member of the quadline from 2015-2018 and the percussion section leader. He also was a quad tech

and maintained a private lesson studio in the Timber Creek High School cluster in Keller ISD.

Prior to his start at UMass Amherst, Dan received his Bachelors of Music Education from the University of North Texas. Where he studied with Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, Christopher Deane, Stockton Helbing, Ed Smith, Dennis Fisher, and Dr. Nicholas Williams. While at UNT, Dan was the section leader of the UNT Drumline and Symphonic Band as well as a performing member in the PASIC Quad Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, 2 O’Clock Steel Band, and Gamelan Ensemble. Dan’s performance resume includes performances with the Boston Crusaders alongside the Boston Pops at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA for the DCI Tanglewood Brass Spectacular in 2015 and 2016, performing with the U.S. Air Force Band at UNT in 2018, and being a member of the Dallas Mavericks Drumline for the 2018 and 2019 NBA seasons.

Dan is a proud endorser of Vic Firth sticks and mallets and Zildjian cymbals.

RACHEL RUBINO (Brass Caption Manager)

Rachel Rubino is excited to return to 7th Regiment as the brass caption manager for the 2021 season. She is currently the director of bands for the Winchester Public School District in Winsted, Connecticut.  Rachel is also a member of the music staff for the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band, who most recently had the honor of marching in the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  She has worked with numerous other marching band and winter percussion ensembles across the state, including those at New Milford High School, The Gilbert School, and Berlin High School. 

Outside of the world of marching music, Rachel is an active musician and private lessons instructor.  She has had the pleasure of studying trumpet under Dr. Dan D’Addio, Chris Valerio, and Derek Gipson.  Rachel marched with 7th Regiment for two seasons, including in 2014 when the corps earned its first DCI World Class Semi-Finals performance.

LAURENCE ALARIE (Color Guard Manager)

Laurence Alarie is returning for her third season with the 7R Guard. Laurence is from Montréal, Canada, and is currently pursuing a major in Fashion Marketing at Collège Marie-Victorin, marketing and communication oriented.She graduated from Collège Montmorency with two majors (Human Sciences and Dance) in 2017 and is a graduate of Trois-Saisons High School in 2014.

Laurence has had a very lengthy color guard career. Most recently, she marched in Carolina Crown (2016-2018), where she was a member of the Zingali Award winning guard in 2016. From 2012 to 2015, she was a member of Les Stentors Drum and Bugle Corps. She has also been a member of the Les Éclipses de Longueuil winterguard from 2003 to 2019, serving as captain in 2018 and 2019.

Laurence has also been a part of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance classes at Suzie Paquette Company and has a contemporary dance background.

As an educator and designer, Laurence is very active. She is presently a technician at Carpe Diem A Class since 2018. With Les Éclipses de Longueuil Novice Class, she is in her third year as a designer, but was also a technician from 2012-2018. She is currently a technician at Les Éclipses de Longueuil Open Class. She was a technician at Les Stentors Drum and Bugles Corps in 2015. She is also presently the Communication Administrator for Les Éclipses de Longueuil

In her free time, Laurence creates Flash Mobs, dances in sports events, gives volunteer dance classes, and enjoys doing art projects.

GABBY TOBER  (Front Ensemble Manager)

Gabby Tober is an active educator and arranger around the Greater Boston area. Passionate for teaching and performing music, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Studies from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where she studied percussion rigorously under Jeff Fischer and Andrew Fordyce. Gabby has several years of marching arts experience, having been a front ensemble member of the Spartans (‘13-15), Spirit Winter Percussion (‘17,18) and the Boston Crusaders (‘17, 18), with whom she also performed with at PASIC in 2018.

Gabby has worked with various front ensembles around the New England area, including 7th Regiment where she was brought on as an instructor for the 2019 season, and currently runs the front ensemble program at Boston University. Gabby is excited to be stepping into the caption manager role at 7th Regiment for the 2021 season!

ALEC SMITH (Visual Caption Manager)

Alec has been associated with 7th Regiment since 2014. His passion for the marching arts began in his non competitive high school band from Pennsylvania. After moving to Connecticut to pursue his bachelor’s degree at the University of New Haven, Alec became a member of 7th Regiment thanks to support from his college band staff. He marched two consecutive seasons with 7R and aged out of DCI with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. The following season, Alec joined the 7R staff as a visual technician. In 2019 he took over the visual caption after serving as an interim caption manager. In conjunction with his duties as the Visual Caption Manger, he also serves as the corps’ Staff Coordinator. Alec spent the first few years post undergrad working in Connecticut’s theatre community developing his skills as a collaborator and manager. Drawing on elements of theatre, he focuses on offering collaborative instruction and content to high school programs through his work as a writer and visual instructor.  He has made appearances at Newtown, Norwich Free Academy, Danbury, and Cheshire High Schools in a variety of capacities, as well as the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps. Alec now manages the visual caption at Trumbull High school and is pursuing a Master of Science in Secondary Education at the University of Bridgeport.

7th Regiment is excited to announce the creation of the 7R Performing Arts Academy (7RPAA). The 7RPAA is a new program offering from the 7RYPAO that acts as a virtual “arts magnet school”. With webinars geared towards performers, established educators, and the next wave of marching educators, the 7RPAA will be a valuable resource to everyone involved in the performing arts. Our sessions will help to further individual understanding and impact in all facets of the marching arts.  

Program topics through the 7R Performing Arts Academy will be multifaceted and will be conducted by educators from our amazing Design and Instructional Teams. Sessions will be presented on Percussion Arranging, Wind Arranging, Electronics Design, Visual and Drill Design, Communication and Positivity, Conducting, “How to Be a Tech”, Section focused topics, and more! Individual virtual lessons may also be offered in certain sections.

“The 7RPAA gives us an opportunity to support our local marching arts and performing arts communities,” says Executive Director Kevin Lowery. “We hope to give students whose school programs were impacted by the current state of things a new outlet to learn and perform. Our designers and educational staff  are excited to be doing what they do best, even if it is not in the traditional sense!”

NEW LONDON, CT – 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps is excited to announce its team of educators who will be leading the organization throughout the 2020 Drum Corps International Season!

“We are so excited to have this amazing team of educators in place.  They represent the absolute best of what we have to offer to 7R. Our members will continue to grow immensely from both the on and off the field experiences that these individuals bring to 7th Regiment,” said Executive Director Kevin Lowery.

CHRISTOPHER LAWLOR (Battery Manager)

Christopher Lawlor hails from East Bridgewater, MA and was a member of the percussion section of the East Coast Jazz Drum & Bugle Corps from 2002 through 2005. Chris also performed in The Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps from 2006 until aging out in 2009. He served as the Drum Captain in 2009. He spent the 2005 WGI season in the quad line of the inaugural season for Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble. Chris performed with RhythmX in 2009 and aged out with them in 2010.

Chris has taught DCI for several summers, including the Troopers battery in 2010, the Blue Stars in 2011 and 2012, and The Cadets quad line in 2013. He has taught in multiple Massachusetts high schools like Everett, Mansfield, Norwood and Burlington. Chris has also worked with the Avon Indiana High School Percussion program in 2011/2012. He more recently spent from 2013-2015 arranging/teaching the The Boston University Band. Chris Has spent from 2015-2018 working with Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. His focuses were mainly with the Percussion Caption. In 2018 Chris joined the design team and arranged the Battery music. Chris also worked with Spirit of America Indoor and United Percussion in a tenor drum tech position in 2018. Since 2016 Chris works closely with, arranges music for and provides individual lessons at Wakefield High School, Massachusetts.

 

RACHEL RUBINO (Brass Caption Manager)

Rachel Rubino is excited to return to 7th Regiment as the brass caption manager for the 2020 season. She is currently the director of bands for the Winchester Public School District in Winsted, Connecticut.  Rachel is also a member of the music staff for the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band, who most recently had the honor of marching in the 2017 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She has worked with numerous other marching band and winter percussion ensembles across the state, including those at New Milford High School, The Gilbert School, and Berlin High School. 

Outside of the world of marching music, Rachel is an active musician and private lessons instructor.  She has had the pleasure of studying trumpet under Dr. Dan D’Addio, Chris Valerio, and Derek Gipson. Rachel marched with 7th Regiment for two seasons, including in 2014 when the corps earned its first DCI World Class Semi-Finals performance.  

 

LAURENCE ALARIE (Color Guard Manager)

Laurence Alarie is returning for her second season with the 7R Guard, but this time as the caption manager. Laurence is from Montréal, Canada, and is currently pursuing a major in Fashion Marketing at Collège Marie-Victorin, marketing and communication oriented.She graduated from Collège Montmorency with two majors (Human Sciences and Dance) in 2017 and is a graduate of Trois-Saisons High School in 2014.

Laurence has had a very lengthy color guard career. Most recently, she marched in Carolina Crown (2016-2018), where she was a member of the Zingali Award winning guard in 2016. From 2012 to 2015, she was a member of Les Stentors Drum and Bugles Corps and Winter Guard. She has also been a member of the Les Éclipses de Longueuil winterguard from 2003 to 2019, serving as captain in 2018 and 2019.

Laurence has also been a part of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance classes at Suzie Paquette Company and has a contemporary dance background.

As an educator and designer, Laurence is very active. She is presently a technician at Carpe Diem A Class since 2018. With Les Éclipses de Longueuil Novice Class, she is in her second year as a designer, but was also a technician from 2012-2018. She is currently a technician at Les Éclipses de Longueuil Open Class. She was a technician at Les Stentors Drum and Bugles Corps in 2015. She is also presently the Communication Administrator for Les Éclipses de Longueuil

In her free time, Laurence creates Flash Mobs, dances in sports events, gives volunteer dance classes, enjoys doing art projects.

 

ALEX SANTA (Front Ensemble Manager)

Alex Santa is a percussionist, arranger, and educator based out of West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Alex began his marching career in 2012 with the Hawthorne Caballeros and was a member of Matrix Indoor Performance Ensemble in 2013 as a snare drum performer. He has studied at West Chester University, focusing on Music Education. At West Chester, Alex was a member of the Incomparable Golden Ram Marching Band for two years performing as a snare drummer and as the Tenor section leader. He has studied under Rob Ferguson, Darren Hazlett, Ralph Sorrentino, and David Nelson.

Alex has taught many different scholastic programs in southeast Pennsylvania, but currently is the Director of Percussion at Hempfield High School from Landisville, Pennsylvania, a three time Cavalcade of Bands Champion. Along with teaching scholastic programs, Alex has spent time teaching Penn State Indoor Percussion, The Connecticut Hurricanes, and was the snare tech/ Battery Coordinator at Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps from 2014- 2018. He was also a member of the 7th Regiment percussion team in 2019.

Alex is very humbled and honored to be leading the 7th Regiment Front Ensemble this year.

 

ALEC SMITH (Visual Caption Manager)

This will be Alec’s fourth season with 7th Regiment. Originally from Pennsylvania, Alec moved to Connecticut to pursue his bachelors at the University of New Haven where he studied music technology and theatre. He has since been an active member of Connecticut’s theater community. 

Alec got his start in the marching arts in his non competitive high school band. Thanks to his university band staff, Alec became a member of 7th Regiment in 2014, where he marched two consecutive seasons with the group. He aged out with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016. Outside of managing the stage, Alec is an active writer and visual instructor in Connecticut, focused on offering collaborative instruction and content to high school programs. Alec has made appearances at Trumbull, Newtown, Norwich Free Academy, Danbury, and Cheshire High Schools in a variety of capacities, as well as the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps.
